Assist Pharmacists in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program resulting in obtaining Pharmacy Technician. license. Successful completion of the National Certification Examination preferred.
Minimum Work Experience Previous Pharmacy Tech experience preferred; hospital experience strongly preferred. Ability to work a flexible schedule (including some evenings and weekends).
Required Licenses [Virginia, United States] Pharmacy Technician
Currently licensed as a Registered Pharmacy Tech in the state of Virginia. BLS required within 30 days of hire.
Required Skills Verbal and written communications skills required. Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department. Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner. Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for collaborating with other departments regarding resources and services for improved patient care.
Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures. Contributes to the effective operation of the department by providing excellent customer service while completing delivery rounds effectively, completing data entry accurately, maintaining records correctly and generating necessary reports. Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department. Maintains competence required for current job title/position. Demonstrates competence in automated dispensing equipment and adheres to established processes and procedures. FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Work requires physical ability as walking, standing, sitting, etc. Involves mental activity and problem-solving. Talking and listening are essential in instructing and supervising personnel. May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment. Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials. Walking and standing for long periods of time depending on workload. Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside. Sitting for long periods of time throughout day. Transport (lift, carry, store) materials weighing up to 75 pounds to and from the pharmacy to nursing units and storage areas. Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients and operate machinery. Reading and writing required regularly to follow job description.
