Under the general supervision of the Systems Director of Pharmacy and a registered Pharmacist, performs a variety of duties essential to the purchasing, preparation, distribution and charging of medications. Must be able to perform functions required in the pharmacy and sterile compounding areas. Must be able to perform functions related to maintaining automated medication dispensing Cabinets and pharmacy related technology. Must be registered as a pharmacy technician prior to hire date. Non certified pharmacy technicians are hired with the expectation they achieve certification (CPHT) credential within 6 months of hire and be moved to the certified technician job description. Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort
Schedule includes varied shifts per assignment 7 days/week. Must be attentive to detail. Stress from deadlines strict regulations, and multi-tasking. Prolonged standing or extensive walking. Regular lifting of supplies/equipment up to 25 pounds. Involves use of syringe/needle manipulations for preparation of hazardous and intravenous therapies. Involves the handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous medications that could pose reproductive risks to those of child bearing age. The tasks of this job do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing supplemental tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. independently. Face masks and other PPE are required for this position.
Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents
Education: High School graduate or equivalent are required. Must complete aseptic technique training within 30 days of hire. Completion of Pharmacy Tech training or Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in applicable Health Science Program is preferred.
Experience: One (1) year pharmacy technician experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is preferred. Basic algebra skills required to perform pharmaceutical calculations.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
KY Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration required. Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPHT) is required within 6 months of hire.
