TASK SUMMARY The Pharmacy Service technician 1, under the guidance and direction of a Pharmacist, supplies drug store services, manages inventory, and delivers pharmaceutical care as designated and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) regulations. NECESSARY FUNCTIONS OF THE FUNCTION Carries out restricted drug store services and responsibilities associated with the equipping, preparation, labeling, dispensing and shipment of medications. Helps clients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental questions under the direct guidance of a pharmacist preceptor. Responses inbound phone calls and reacts to the requirements of the caller and/or directs them to the suitable individual for service. Communicates immediately with all proper staff member when stock levels are low and assists with drug purchasing and stock control in a suitable manner (ex. buying and receiving of medications and supplies). Carries out designated tasks concerning pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs. Goes into medication orders from medical professionals’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, making sure that the correct product is dispensed and that the dosage form and charge quantity are in accordance with formulary; goes into proper billing data and is responsible for medication charges and credits. Fixes inconsistencies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated giving maker (ADM) Cleans up and helps keep devices and work area; disinfects glassware according to recognized procedures. SECRET SUCCESS FACTORS Basic understanding of Drug store Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical computations, terms, drug use and aseptic methods, standards, and devices. Knowledge of treatments and requirements for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications. Should be able to check out, write and follow instructions and flow diagram protocols. Capability to sort, check, count, and validate numbers. Ability to follow established safety, infection control, environmental and isolation practices and treatments at all times. Interpersonal skills required to interact successfully with patients and staff. General computer abilities, including however not restricted to: using needed software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documents, hand held scanning and email.
