JOB SUMMARY The Pharmacy Service technician 1, under the guidance and instructions of a Pharmacist, supplies pharmacy services, handles inventory, and provides pharmaceutical care as assigned and in accordance with Texas State Board of Drug Store (TSBP) policies. VITAL FUNCTIONS OF THE FUNCTION Carries out restricted drug store services and tasks associated with the equipping, preparation, labeling, giving and delivery of medications. Assists patients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor. Answers inbound telephone call and reacts to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate individual for service. Interacts promptly with all suitable employee when inventory levels are low and helps with drug purchasing and inventory control in a suitable way (ex. purchasing and getting of medications and materials). Carries out designated jobs concerning pharmacy quality assurance, management of drug store records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs. Enters medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, guaranteeing that the correct item is given and that the dose kind and charge amount remain in accordance with formulary; goes into appropriate billing data and is responsible for medication charges and credits. Fixes inconsistencies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing device (ADM) Cleans and assists keep devices and work area; sterilizes glasses according to established procedures. KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Standard understanding of Drug store Care techniques, terminology, pharmaceutical computations, terms, drug use and aseptic techniques, requirements, and equipment. Knowledge of procedures and requirements for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications. Should have the ability to read, write and follow guidelines and flowchart protocols. Ability to sort, check, count, and validate numbers. Capability to follow recognized safety, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and procedures at all times. Interpersonal abilities needed to interact successfully with patients and staff. General computer system abilities, including but not restricted to: utilizing required software applications, data entry, info security, electronic medical paperwork, hand held scanning and e-mail.
