JOB SUMMARY

The Drug Store Professional 1, under the supervision and direction of a Pharmacist, offers pharmacy services, handles inventory, and provides pharmaceutical care as appointed and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) policies.

VITAL FUNCTIONS OF THE FUNCTION

Performs restricted pharmacy services and responsibilities associated with the stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing and delivery of medications.

Assists patients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental questions under the direct guidance of a pharmacist preceptor.

Answers incoming call and reacts to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the proper person for service.

Communicates promptly with all proper staff member when inventory levels are low and helps with drug acquiring and inventory control in a suitable way (ex. buying and receiving of medications and supplies).

Carries out designated tasks regarding drug store quality control, management of drug store records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs.

Gets in medication orders from medical professionals’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, making sure that the appropriate product is given which the dose kind and charge amount are in accordance with formulary; goes into appropriate billing data and is accountable for medication charges and credits.

Resolves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing machine (ADM)

Cleans and helps keep devices and work area; sanitizes glassware according to established treatments.

SECRET SUCCESS FACTORS

Basic understanding of Drug store Care modalities, terms, pharmaceutical computations, terms, substance abuse and aseptic methods, standards, and devices.

Knowledge of treatments and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.

Must be able to check out, write and follow directions and flow diagram procedures.

Capability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.

Capability to follow recognized security, infection control, environmental and seclusion practices and treatments at all times.

Interpersonal skills required to interact successfully with patients and personnel.

General computer system abilities, including but not limited to: utilizing needed software application applications, data entry, info security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

QUALIFICATIONS

– EDUCATION – H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

– EXPERIENCE – Less than 1 Year of Experience

– CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION –

Pharmacy Specialist (PHT): Drug Store Tech (PHT) license issued by the Texas State Board of Drug Store.
