JOB SUMMARY The Pharmacy Professional 1, under the supervision and instructions of a Pharmacist, supplies drug store services, manages inventory, and delivers pharmaceutical care as appointed and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) regulations. IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Carries out limited pharmacy services and tasks associated with the stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing and shipment of medications. Helps patients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor. Answers inbound phone calls and reacts to the requirements of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate individual for service. Interacts immediately with all proper team members when stock levels are low and assists with drug acquiring and inventory control in an appropriate way (ex. buying and receiving of medications and supplies). Performs designated jobs relating to drug store quality assurance, management of drug store records, inventory control and preparation of order for drugs. Goes into medication orders from physicians’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, making sure that the proper product is dispensed and that the dose kind and charge quantity are in accordance with formulary; enters correct billing data and is responsible for medication charges and credits. Resolves inconsistencies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing device (ADM) Cleans up and assists maintain devices and work area; disinfects glass wares according to established treatments. SECRET SUCCESS ASPECTS Standard understanding of Drug store Care techniques, terms, pharmaceutical calculations, terms, substance abuse and aseptic techniques, standards, and devices. Knowledge of procedures and requirements for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications. Must be able to read, write and follow instructions and flow chart protocols. Ability to sort, check, count, and confirm numbers. Capability to follow recognized safety, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and procedures at all times. Social abilities needed to connect efficiently with clients and personnel. General computer system skills, consisting of but not restricted to: using required software applications, information entry, details security, electronic medical documents, hand held scanning and e-mail.
