Drug Store Tech (MCK)

The Drug store Specialist 1, under the guidance and instructions of a Pharmacist, supplies pharmacy services, handles stock, and delivers pharmaceutical care as assigned and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) regulations.

IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Performs minimal drug store services and tasks related to the equipping, preparation, labeling, giving and delivery of medications.

Helps patients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental concerns under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.

Responses inbound phone calls and reacts to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the proper individual for service.

Communicates immediately with all suitable team members when stock levels are low and assists with drug acquiring and inventory control in an appropriate way (ex. ordering and getting of medications and supplies).

Carries out designated jobs concerning drug store quality assurance, management of pharmacy records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs.

Goes into medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, making sure that the right item is dispensed and that the dose form and charge amount are in accordance with formulary; enters right billing data and is responsible for medication charges and credits.

Resolves disparities, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing maker (ADM)

Cleans and helps preserve equipment and work area; sanitizes glass wares according to recognized procedures.

KEY SUCCESS ASPECTS

Standard understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terms, pharmaceutical estimations, terms, drug use and aseptic methods, requirements, and equipment.

Knowledge of treatments and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.

Needs to have the ability to read, compose and follow guidelines and flow chart protocols.

Ability to sort, check, count, and confirm numbers.

Ability to follow recognized security, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and treatments at all times.

Social skills required to engage effectively with clients and staff.

General computer system skills, consisting of but not restricted to: using needed software application applications, information entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and e-mail.

QUALIFICATIONS

– EDUCATION – H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

– EXPERIENCE – Less than 1 Year of Experience

– CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION –
