The Drug Store Technician 1, under the supervision and direction of a Pharmacist, provides drug store services, handles inventory, and delivers pharmaceutical care as assigned and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) guidelines.
NECESSARY FUNCTIONS OF THE FUNCTION
Performs restricted drug store services and duties related to the stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing and delivery of medications.
Assists clients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.
Answers inbound telephone call and reacts to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service.
Interacts immediately with all suitable staff member when stock levels are low and helps with drug buying and stock control in a proper manner (ex. purchasing and getting of medications and supplies).
Performs designated jobs concerning drug store quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of order for drugs.
Enters medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, guaranteeing that the appropriate product is given and that the dosage form and charge quantity remain in accordance with formulary; enters appropriate billing information and is accountable for medication charges and credits.
Resolves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated giving maker (ADM)
Cleans and assists maintain devices and workspace; sterilizes glass wares according to established treatments.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Standard understanding of Pharmacy Care techniques, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, terminology, drug use and aseptic methods, standards, and devices.
Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.
Needs to have the ability to read, compose and follow directions and flow diagram protocols.
Capability to sort, check, count, and confirm numbers.
Ability to follow recognized safety, infection control, environmental and seclusion practices and treatments at all times.
Interpersonal skills required to communicate successfully with patients and staff.
General computer system abilities, consisting of but not restricted to: utilizing needed software applications, data entry, info security, electronic medical documents, hand held scanning and e-mail.
