The Pharmacy Specialist 1, under the guidance and direction of a Pharmacist, provides pharmacy services, handles stock, and provides pharmaceutical care as designated and in accordance with Texas State Board of Drug Store (TSBP) regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE FUNCTION
Carries out minimal pharmacy services and duties associated with the equipping, preparation, labeling, dispensing and shipment of medications.
Helps clients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental questions under the direct guidance of a pharmacist preceptor.
Answers inbound call and responds to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service.
Interacts without delay with all suitable staff member when stock levels are low and helps with drug purchasing and inventory control in an appropriate way (ex. ordering and getting of medications and supplies).
Performs designated jobs relating to drug store quality control, management of drug store records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs.
Goes into medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, making sure that the correct product is given which the dose form and charge amount remain in accordance with formulary; gets in right billing information and is responsible for medication charges and credits.
Solves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated giving maker (ADM)
Cleans and assists maintain devices and workspace; decontaminates glasses according to recognized procedures.

Basic understanding of Drug store Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical computations, terminology, substance abuse and aseptic techniques, standards, and devices.
Understanding of treatments and requirements for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.
Needs to be able to check out, write and follow instructions and flow diagram procedures.
Capability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
Ability to follow established security, infection control, environmental and seclusion practices and treatments at all times.
Interpersonal abilities required to interact efficiently with patients and staff.
General computer system skills, consisting of however not limited to: using required software application applications, information entry, info security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.
