The Drug Store Specialist 1, under the supervision and instructions of a Pharmacist, supplies pharmacy services, manages inventory, and delivers pharmaceutical care as assigned and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs restricted pharmacy services and duties associated with the equipping, preparation, labeling, dispensing and shipment of medications.
Helps patients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental concerns under the direct guidance of a pharmacist preceptor.
Answers incoming phone calls and reacts to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service.
Communicates quickly with all proper team members when stock levels are low and helps with drug purchasing and inventory control in an appropriate manner (ex. purchasing and getting of medications and products).
Carries out designated tasks relating to drug store quality control, management of pharmacy records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs.
Enters medication orders from physicians’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, guaranteeing that the right product is given which the dosage type and charge quantity are in accordance with formulary; enters correct billing data and is accountable for medication charges and credits.
Solves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing device (ADM)
Cleans and helps keep devices and workspace; sterilizes glassware according to recognized treatments.
SECRET SUCCESS ELEMENTS
Standard understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terms, pharmaceutical estimations, terms, drug use and aseptic strategies, standards, and equipment.
Understanding of treatments and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.
Needs to be able to check out, write and follow instructions and flow diagram procedures.
Capability to sort, check, count, and confirm numbers.
Ability to follow recognized safety, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and procedures at all times.
Social abilities needed to engage successfully with patients and personnel.
General computer abilities, including however not limited to: utilizing required software application applications, data entry, info security, electronic medical paperwork, hand held scanning and e-mail.

Pharmacy Specialist (PHT): Pharmacy Tech (PHT) license released by the Texas State Board of Drug Store.
