TASK SUMMARY
Position is accountable for helping the Pharmacist in the provision of pharmaceutical care by carrying out technical and clerical duties associated with the operation of the Drug store.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MINIMUM CREDENTIALS
EDUCATION: Need to be a minimum of 18 years of age, and have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current Drug store Tech accreditation or Pharmacist Intern License required
- Sterile Products Accreditation through recognized program is needed if incumbent substances sterilized products
EXPERIENCE/ UNDERSTANDING/ SKILLS:
- One (1) year hospital pharmacy experience is chosen.
- Must have knowledge of medical terms.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Picks prescribed medications according to dosage and strength showed on patient medication file or cart-fill list.
- Gets product and locations into stock.
- Monitors appointed locations for out-of-stock or obsolete stock.
- Delivers medications to the client care locations.
- Inspects and keeps emergency situation medication trays.
- Plans and labels unit dosage oral liquids/tablets, and maintains pre-pack records.
- Collects and loads drugs into an automated drug dispensing system (PYXIS). Maintains inventory for non-automated patient care locations.
- Responds to ask for medications from nursing personnel and other departments.
- Follows procedures to guarantee all medications are compliant to innovation safety checks.
- Prepares sterile items in a precise and aseptic way when appropriate.
- Addresses customers as a liaison and collects a medication history if appropriate.
- Properly manage pharmaceutical waste
- Credits clients for returned medications utilizing the computer system, and returns the medication to stock.
- If a registered intern: Under direct guidance of a pharmacist, contacts and consults physicians worrying the appropriate drug, dose, dosing interval, drug allergic reaction and drug-drug interactions.
- Guarantees safe care to clients, sticking to policies, treatments, and requirements, within financial specifications, consisting of time management, supply management, productivity, and precision of practice.
- Promotes individual expert development and advancement by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, abilities proficiency, supports department-based objectives which add to the success of the company; serves as preceptor, coach, and resource to less experienced personnel.
