JOB SUMMARY

The Drug Store Specialist 1, under the supervision and instructions of a Pharmacist, provides pharmacy services, handles stock, and delivers pharmaceutical care as assigned and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) policies.

NECESSARY FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Carries out restricted drug store services and tasks connected with the stocking, preparation, labeling, giving and delivery of medications.

Helps patients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.

Responses incoming call and responds to the requirements of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service.

Interacts immediately with all proper staff member when stock levels are low and helps with drug purchasing and stock control in an appropriate manner (ex. purchasing and getting of medications and products).

Carries out designated tasks relating to drug store quality control, management of drug store records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs.

Gets in medication orders from medical professionals’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, guaranteeing that the appropriate product is given which the dosage kind and charge quantity remain in accordance with formulary; goes into right billing information and is accountable for medication charges and credits.

Fixes inconsistencies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing machine (ADM)

Cleans and assists maintain devices and work area; decontaminates glassware according to recognized procedures.

SECRET SUCCESS ASPECTS

Standard understanding of Drug store Care techniques, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, terminology, drug use and aseptic methods, requirements, and devices.

Knowledge of procedures and requirements for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.

Must have the ability to read, compose and follow directions and flowchart protocols.

Capability to sort, check, count, and confirm numbers.

Ability to follow recognized safety, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and treatments at all times.

Interpersonal skills required to connect efficiently with clients and personnel.

General computer system skills, consisting of but not limited to: using required software application applications, information entry, info security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

CREDENTIALS

– EDUCATION – H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

– EXPERIENCE – Less than 1 Year of Experience

– CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION –
