Pharmacy specialists are individuals who are competent or trained in the useful, technical and distributive elements of drug store practice. Drug store service technicians help pharmacists in the regular, daily functions of drug store practice. Through the efficiency of these jobs and through partnership with pharmacists, service technicians permit pharmacists to participate in client care activities that eventually enhance the quality of client care. Service technicians are monitored by certified pharmacists who validate the precision of their task efficiency. Drug store assistants are trained in all locations of the drug store under the direct guidance of a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist to shift to a Pharmacy Technician status within the organization.
Position Reports To: Reports to Pharmacy Manager
Essential Functions
- Prepares Intravenous (IV) admixtures and piggyback (PB) syringes.
- Fills narcotic appropriations and properly files all narcotic deals in the NarcStation computer system.
- Adheres to all policy and treatments associated with narcotic paperwork, circulation and record keeping.
- Fills floorstock/AcuDose cabinets, appropriations and other order demands.
- Restocks client care location crash carts.
- Compounds non-sterile stock preparations according to recognized policies and treatments.
- Performs activities and duties associated with the automated drug store circulation system consisting of:
- automated cart fill
- initially dosage circulation
- restocking
- repackaging
- crediting
- Performs per hour shipments and as required shipment of medications to the client care locations in a prompt way.
- Assists in buying pharmaceuticals, materials and unique orders on a regular and emergency situation basis.
- Assists in stock control.
- Assists in signing in freight and equipping racks.
- Assists the Home Infusion Service in the preparation, labeling and shipping of items and products.
- Assists in carrying out regular monthly look for out-of-date medications.
- Repackages bulk medications into system dosage plans to help in the shipment and precision of client medications.
- Assists in arranging and preserving the tidiness of the department.
- Performs other activities/responsibilities as considered proper by the drug store department.
- Attends conferences as needed.
- Answers the telephone, door, and drug store window in a considerate and prompt way.
- Communicates favorably and efficiently in a group method with colleagues within and outside the department.
- Required to preserve active Basic Life Support (CPR) accreditation.
- Other responsibilities as appointed.
Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and abide by the Code of Conduct in all elements of task efficiency at all times.

Qualifications
Required:
Active Washington State License as one of the following:
Pharmacy Technician Certification– VA
Pharmacy Technician Temporary Practice Permit– TP
Pharmacist Intern Registration – IR
Must have fundamental computer system abilities connected to Windows navigation, mouse use, precise keyboarding, e-mail interaction and password management.
