Pharmacy Tech - Retail

The Drug store Technician 1, under the supervision and instructions of a Pharmacist, offers pharmacy services, manages stock, and delivers pharmaceutical care as designated and in accordance with Texas State Board of Drug Store (TSBP) policies.

IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE FUNCTION

Carries out restricted pharmacy services and duties associated with the equipping, preparation, labeling, dispensing and shipment of medications.

Assists patients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.

Answers inbound call and responds to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service.

Interacts without delay with all suitable employee when stock levels are low and helps with drug acquiring and stock control in a suitable manner (ex. buying and getting of medications and materials).

Carries out designated jobs regarding drug store quality assurance, management of drug store records, inventory control and preparation of order for drugs.

Gets in medication orders from medical professionals’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, ensuring that the appropriate item is dispensed and that the dose form and charge quantity are in accordance with formulary; enters right billing information and is responsible for medication charges and credits.

Resolves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated giving maker (ADM)

Cleans and helps maintain devices and workspace; sterilizes glassware according to recognized treatments.

KEY SUCCESS ELEMENTS

Fundamental understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical estimations, terms, substance abuse and aseptic techniques, requirements, and devices.

Understanding of treatments and requirements for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.

Must be able to check out, compose and follow instructions and flow diagram protocols.

Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.

Ability to follow recognized safety, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and procedures at all times.

Social skills required to engage effectively with patients and personnel.

General computer skills, including however not restricted to: utilizing required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and e-mail.

CERTIFICATIONS

– EDUCATION – H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

– EXPERIENCE – Less than 1 Year of Experience

– CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION –
