The Pharmacy Technician 1, under the guidance and direction of a Pharmacist, provides pharmacy services, handles stock, and delivers pharmaceutical care as appointed and in accordance with Texas State Board of Drug Store (TSBP) guidelines.
NECESSARY FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Carries out restricted drug store services and responsibilities related to the stocking, preparation, labeling, giving and delivery of medications.
Helps clients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.
Answers incoming phone calls and reacts to the requirements of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service.
Communicates without delay with all suitable staff member when inventory levels are low and helps with drug purchasing and inventory control in a proper manner (ex. ordering and receiving of medications and products).
Carries out designated tasks relating to pharmacy quality assurance, management of drug store records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs.
Goes into medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, ensuring that the appropriate item is dispensed which the dose form and charge amount remain in accordance with formulary; goes into right billing data and is responsible for medication charges and credits.
Resolves inconsistencies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated giving machine (ADM)
Cleans and assists keep equipment and work area; sterilizes glass wares according to recognized treatments.
KEY SUCCESS ELEMENTS
Standard understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terms, pharmaceutical computations, terminology, drug use and aseptic methods, standards, and equipment.
Understanding of treatments and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.
Needs to be able to read, write and follow directions and flowchart procedures.
Capability to sort, check, count, and validate numbers.
Ability to follow established security, infection control, ecological and seclusion practices and procedures at all times.
Interpersonal abilities required to communicate efficiently with patients and staff.
General computer system skills, consisting of but not restricted to: utilizing required software applications, data entry, info security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and e-mail.
