The Drug store Professional 1, under the supervision and instructions of a Pharmacist, provides drug store services, handles stock, and delivers pharmaceutical care as appointed and in accordance with Texas State Board of Drug Store (TSBP) policies.
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs minimal drug store services and responsibilities related to the equipping, preparation, labeling, giving and delivery of medications.
Assists patients and medical staff with nonjudgmental concerns under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.
Responses incoming phone calls and reacts to the requirements of the caller and/or directs them to the suitable individual for service.
Communicates immediately with all proper employee when inventory levels are low and helps with drug acquiring and inventory control in a suitable way (ex. ordering and receiving of medications and products).
Performs designated jobs relating to drug store quality assurance, management of drug store records, inventory control and preparation of order for drugs.
Goes into medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, making sure that the right product is given and that the dose kind and charge quantity are in accordance with formulary; enters appropriate billing information and is accountable for medication charges and credits.
Deals with inconsistencies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated giving maker (ADM)
Cleans and assists preserve equipment and workspace; sterilizes glasses according to recognized procedures.
KEY SUCCESS ELEMENTS
Basic understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical estimations, terms, substance abuse and aseptic techniques, standards, and devices.
Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.
Should be able to read, write and follow directions and flowchart procedures.
Capability to sort, check, count, and validate numbers.
Capability to follow recognized safety, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and treatments at all times.
Interpersonal skills needed to interact successfully with clients and personnel.
General computer system abilities, including however not limited to: using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical paperwork, hand held scanning and email.
